Fred, I wanted to drop you a line and also remind you about a tool that comes with Windows called Character Map. You can find the specific symbol you want to use and the key to type it is listed in the bottom right corner. You can find Character Map under Accessories/System Tools in XP. --- Patrick
[Character Map has been around in most Windows versions for a long time, although it's not always installed by default. Check your version's Help file for more info.]
Hi Fred love your newsletter. An easy solution to the foreign characters and symbols is a piece of freeware called AllChars for Windows at
http://allchars.zwollnet.com .This installs a set of very easy keyboard macros. I use it to write in Spanish (mostly email to relatives), since the difference between n and ñ can mean giving offense or shocking some people. -- Cecilio Morales
Hi Fred, A simple and effective program to access symbols is one that I've been using for a number of years. It's called "MapOChars" by Daniel Hoppe. At 233 KB it's a quick download from
http://www.grafxfreeware.homestead.com/mapofchars.html The program does not require installation and does not mess with Windows system files. No messy typing is involved to import a symbol or foreign language character into your document. Simply select the character, copy to clipboard, and paste into your document. You may copy as text, rtf, html and more. The program minimizes to the system tray too - very handy. Check out the screenshot at the URL above.---Peter Follert
